Do I need any prior woodworking or carving experience?
Not at all! This experience is designed for everyone, from absolute beginners to seasoned artists. You will learn step-by-step alongside Mani Lavaka, a highly sought-after, 4th-generation Master Carver from Tonga. He and our expert staff will guide you through traditional carving techniques, ensuring you feel comfortable and safe throughout the entire process.
What kind of wood do we use, and what do I get to keep?
You will be hand-carving your very own authentic Polynesian Tiki out of top-quality, locally sourced wood grown right here on the Big Island. Your finished piece is yours to take home as a unique souvenir and lasting memory of your experience.
How do we get to the carving location on the farm?
Your adventure begins with a short, scenic ride in one of our guide-driven UTVs. Your guide will transport you through our beautiful tropical landscapes to our private Carving Hale (Hut), which overlooks the stunning Kona coastline.
Can children participate in the Wood Carving Tour?
Yes! Children ages 8–15 can actively participate and carve their own Tiki when booked under Child pricing. Children under age 8 are unfortunately too young to safely handle the carving tools but are welcome to accompany a paid adult as an observer.
What should I wear to the carving tour?
Closed-toe shoes are required for all participants to ensure safety while working with carving tools. We also recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a little wood dust on during the carving process.
Are there health or physical restrictions for this tour?
While the carving session takes place seated inside our covered Carving Hale, guests must take a UTV ride to reach the carving location. Because of this, we are unable to accommodate expectant mothers, individuals with recent major surgeries, or those with chronic neck or back problems.
Can I combine the Carving Tour with the ATV Tour?
Yes! We offer a Combo Package Deal that allows you to experience both the thrill of the ATV Tour and the creativity of the Wood Carving Tour. The tours can be enjoyed back-to-back on the same day (approximately 3.5 hours total) or split across different days. Be sure to look for the discounted combo option when booking.
Will the carving tour happen if it rains?
Yes, our tours run rain or shine. The carving session takes place inside our traditional covered Carving Hale, protecting you from the elements while still allowing you to enjoy the beautiful jungle setting and scenic views.
